THE MISSION
Welcome to UCLA's Systems Engineering Laboratory.
Here we utilize the principles of chemical engineering, and mathematics to modify and develop efficient, clean, and flexible
chemical engineering processes. This is accomplished through research in the following areas:
RESEARCH
Development of multidimensional models for individual parts and integrated systems through: Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of multi-phase and multi-scale reacting flow systems and analytical models for the accurate prediction of reactor effluent concentrations.
Design and simulation of novel multi-product and energetic self sufficient chemical plants with zero pollutant emissions through application of reaction clusters, heat and power integration, and state of the art process simulators.
Development of new constrained infinite time optimal control strategies for nonlinear chemical and biochemical units and processes.
Economic profitability and sustainability assessment of intensified modular chemical and biochemical processes, through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Techno Economic Analysis (TEA) and newly introduced Sustainability Over Sets (SOS) methodologies.
