CPT-based P-wave Reflection Imaging of Embedded Objects
Sponsored through the California Department of Transportation
The ultrasonic imaging device utilized during laboratory testing is illustrated on the top set of pictures. Flow in the data acquisition system as well as the overall function of the laboratory device are illustrated in the bottom figure.
A set of laboratory tests on an aluminum angled plate was performed to test the effectiveness of the system in imaging dipping reflectors. Typical results from the testing are shown.
Laboratory tests were performed on a 3D physical model similar in size to geotechnical centrifuge test models. 2D sections from the model were imaged and results are shown.
The 2D image sections of the physical model were post-processed using Voxler. This resulted in true 3D images of the physical model as illustrated.
